Aveda Ind. Waste

Aveda Ind. Waste

Initial System: Aveda’s existing industrial waste system consisted of a 75 gpm pumped system. The waste stream was treated for pH adjustment and temperature control. Defoaming agents were also required to avoid foam overflows in the production area.

Issues: NewMech was approached to review the modification of the existing industrial waste system. The system was at capacity and in need of expansion to a minimum 150 gpm capacity. In addition the pumped system fed into the building waste water system and at times caused foam to form in bathroom sinks, drains, and toilets. After reviewing the system it was also discovered that the existing industrial waste system required a large amount of maintenance to remove solids which formed in the detention tank.

Solutions: NewMech reviewed all site conditions and ultimately determined that a gravity system would be feasible on Aveda’s site. The system required directional drilling to install a new 8” PVC waste line and two manholes connected to the existing detention tank. The new system provides 400 gpm of capacity and removes the existing waste stream from the building sanitary sewer connection.

Results: NewMech executed the project without significant interruptions of Aveda’s operation. The project was completed at a cost of $266,000 with a capacity increase of 325 gpm and a payback of 7.4 years. The foam issue was completely eliminated and no defoaming agent was required with the new system. Maintenance on the system was also significantly reduced as a result of removal of the solids through the gravity system. A summary of savings is provided below.

Items Savings
